Get a Head Start on 2019

We strongly feel that every agent or agency owner should have a business plan. A business plan serves several purposes; but most importantly it serves as a road map guiding the start and continued growth of your business.

Writing a business plan is an opportunity to carefully think through every step of your company so you can be successful. It’s your chance to discover any weaknesses in your business, identify opportunities you may not have considered, and resolve the challenges that are likely to arise.

Be honest with yourself as you work through your business plan. Don’t gloss over potential problems; instead, figure out solutions.

A good business plan is clear and concise. A person outside of your industry should be able to understand it. Most of the time involved in writing your plan should be spent researching and thinking.

Here’s a few other tips:

Be realistic. Investors, lenders and others (like carriers or your FMO partner) reading your plan will want to see realistic projections and expect your assumptions to be supported with facts.

Proofread your completed plan (or have someone proofread it for you) to make sure it’s free of spelling and grammatical errors and that all figures are accurate.

Revisit your plan monthly and make sure you’re staying on track. If your plan is not working, modify and implement any necessary changes. Understand that most businesses and industries are fluid; you’ll need to adapt and evolve in order to stay relevant and competitive.
